The Center for Integrated Arts Education with support from the School of Art and Design at the University of Northern Colorado is pleased to announce the 11th Annual Arts Education Leadership Institute.
The 2017 Institute will examine the ways a students’ cultural interests, assumptions, and values differ from the adult culture of their teachers and parents. The Institute will be an opportunity for teachers to decenter themselves, listen to students, other teachers and scholars who have asked similar questions and find new ways of interacting in the classroom.
“What do kids like and adults misunderstand?”
“Is the school day differently experienced by boys and by girls?”
“What is the role of social media in a kid’s life?”
“What music, art, fashions and fads are popular and why?”
“What stresses and tensions do our children experience that may be invisible to the adults in their lives?”
“How can the assumed joy and innocence of a child’s life be realized in everyday practices?”
The Center for Integrated Arts Education (CIAE) was established at the University of Northern Colorado in the Fall of 2006.
CIAE provides research and professional development in arts learning centered in multi-disciplinary explorations. The Center brings nationally known artists and educators to Colorado to engage with local teachers, artists and the community to develop new and viable ideas in the arts and classroom practice. We offer resources for trans-disciplinary learning, leadership training, facilitated planning and arts workshop opportunities for Colorado teachers, administrators, artists and arts education advocates.
CIAE is supported by School of Art and Design at the University of Northern Colorado, the National Endowment for the Arts, and private foundations.
The College of Performing and Visual Arts at the University of Northern Colorado and the Center for Integrated Arts Education were listed by the Dana Foundation in the publication Transforming Arts Teaching, The Role of Higher Education (eds. Pollin, J & Rich, B 2008), as one of selected 24 universities improving K-12 arts education.
