Susan Smallwood Herold

Susan Smallwood Herold leads the Fibers Program Area at UNC. She has
an M.F.A. from Colorado State University and a Bachelor of Arts from
the University of Northern Colorado. Her area of specialization is
Fibers. She has been employed at the University of Northern Colorado
for 11 years. In addition to her studio work in multi-media arts, she has
done extensive research on Irish art and art history. She travels
to
Ireland as often as she can looking for out of the way places that
offer a new art experience. She is a student of the Irish language,
spending
time in the summers in an Irish Gaeltacht. Not limiting herself to
Ireland she has traveled to Spain to teach English to Spanish Business
men and
women. She also likes to fly to other parts of the United States
to art shows keeping her more up to date. The most important
aspect of her time at UNC is the students, traveling with them as
they
develop their talents and staying open to learn from them through their
challenging questions and other interchanges.
Herold teaches courses in Fiber Design, Weaving, Drawing, and Art and
