Project Description:

  • Diego Rivera's North Wall Mural was divided into forty square mural sections
  • Each Art I / Art II class divided into groups of 2 or 3 students
  • Each group selected a mural section and was given a 2'x2' panel to build their image on.
  • The composition, proportions and value structure of each mural section was to remain accurate; color, texture and form were open to interpretation.
  • Students were expected to add form, texture and color to their section. Natural materials, recycled materials, or new materials were added to create form, texture and color.
  • Students researched their area to determine themes, symbols and meaning contained in their section.

Requirements:

  • Section must be created in relief, built up at least 1" from the surface
  • Relief additions must not extend beyond the side boundaries of the panel
  • Sections could not weigh more than 5 lbs.
