School of Music Admissions

Admission to the UNC School of Music is by application and audition. Specific audition and repertoire requirements are listed on the application. You are also welcome to contact the faculty listed on the application with any questions about how to best prepare for the audition. After you submit your School of Music application, you will receive an email confirmation of your audition date and time. You should plan to come to campus on one of the scheduled audition dates. However, if you cannot attend any of the audition dates, contact Valerie Anderson at Valerie.Anderson@unco.edu. The results of your audition will be sent to your mailing address by mid-March.

On each scheduled audition day, the School of Music provides an informal lunch with faculty presentations. We encourage you to attend, meet our faculty and staff and learn more about the School and University. If you attend the Monday audition date, you can arrange to attend classes by indicating so on your application. Further, let us know if you intend to extend your visit so that we can possible arrange for you to attend a School of Music performance.

Scholarship Information and Deadlines

School of Music Talent Awards

A number of scholarships are available through the School of Music. Your admission audition will serve as a music talent scholarship audition. You do not need to complete a form to be considered for a School of Music talent award; all music majors are considered for talent awards. Recommendations for music talent scholarships are made by the faculty in each applied area and are finalized by the Director of the School of Music. Scholarship offers are sent to your mailing address in April.

Financial Aid Awards: FAFSA and UNC University Scholarship Application

Complete the standard Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application, available in your counselor's office, on-line, or from the UNC Student Financial Resources Office, in order to be considered for need-based financial assistance. For first priority consideration, the FAFSA form must be completed and received by March 1st. The Universal Scholarship Application is available to students admitted to UNC by March 1. Completing it by March 1, allows you to be considered for other UNC Foundation scholarships. It is not necessary for most of the School of Music talent scholarships.

Undergraduate Admissions Scholarships

The Admissions Office offers a variety of Admission scholarships to Incoming and Transfer students, both Resident and Non-Resident students. Please visit their website or call 970-351-2502 for details of eligibility.

Graduate Scholarships and Assistantships

Your admission audition/interview will serve as a music talent scholarship/assistantship audition. Recommendations for music talent scholarships and assistantships are made by the faculty in each applied area and are finalized by the Director of the School of Music. Assistantships carry a stipend and up to full tuition support. If you are applying for a Jazz assistantship, you will need to complete the Jazz assistantship application.
