Dr. William H. Hinkie, III is instructor of string music education courses at the University of Northern Colorado. He is also co-director and founder of the New Millennium Conservatory for Strings in Lafayette, CO, a strings specialist for the Jefferson County Schools and Music Director of the Commerce City Youth Orchestra. Dr. Hinkie performs as principal violist of both the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra and the Musica Sacre Chamber Orchestra and he is a member of the Intermezzo Chamber Players. He frequently performs as a substitute violist with the Colorado Ballet and the Colorado Springs Philharmonic. During summers, Dr. Hinkie is an artist faculty member at the Interlochen Center for the Arts in Northern Michigan where he has taught violin, viola, cello, and string chamber music.

As a clinician, Dr. Hinkie has presented at the Midwest Clinic, the national conference of MENC, and will present at the American String Teacher’s Association’s (ASTA) national clinic in the spring of 2010. He is the Northern Colorado representative for the Colorado chapter of ASTA.

Dr. Hinkie’s undergraduate degree is in music education with an emphasis in violin performance from Louisiana State University; his Master of Music degree in viola performance is from the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Doctorate of Musical Arts in viola performance was earned at the University of Minnesota. His teachers have included Sally O’Reilly, Heidi Castleman, Ellen Rose, Victoria Chiang, Korey Konkol, and Thomas Turner.
