Dave Stamps is Associate Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Northern Colorado. At UNC, Stamps teaches Music Business in addition to managing UNC Jazz Press and the daily operations of the award-winning UNC jazz studies program.
An active trombonist and composer/arranger primarily in the Denver area, Stamps performs regularly with the Colorado Jazz Orchestra, Legacy Jazz Orchestra, Wil Swindler’s Elevenet, the Ninth+Lincoln Orchestra, as well as his own trio. He has performed all over the United States as well as Canada, Mexico, Peru and Europe, including the North Sea, Vienne, Montreax, and Lima jazz festivals accompanying artists the likes of Rufus Reid, Wycliffe Gordon, Randy Brecker, Steve Turre, and Chick Corea.
Stamps’ compositions have been performed and recorded by university and professional jazz ensembles worldwide. He is a member of ASCAP with all of his compositions currently available through Slide-Effect Music.
Previously, Stamps served as Managing Director of The Center for Jazz Composition and Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of South Florida where he taught jazz composition/arranging and directed jazz ensembles. Collaborating with CJC Artistic Director, Chuck Owen, Stamps helped to develop the Jazz Masterworks Series, the International Jazz Composers’ Symposium and the International Jazz Arranging Competition.
Stamps holds graduate degrees in jazz performance/pedagogy and jazz composition from Northern Illinois University and the University of South Florida, respectively. He also earned a Bachelor of Music degree in jazz studies from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville and is an alumnus of Indiana University-Bloomington.
