NO BOUNDARIES ~ SPRING SEMESTER 2012
You are invited to join NO Boundaries, a series of UNC campus and community-wide events and programs focused on a single theme. Real or imagined, boundaries are everywhere in the multitude of signs, symbols, and labels by which we define and identify ourselves and others: nationhood, ethnicity, race, religion, gender, economic status, age—endless internal and external boundary lines. This project is intended to bring forward a wide range of views looking at the complexities that help us define and understand ourselves and others in very real ways, as well as how we create or knock down boundaries in our lives, our work, and in our communities.

Breaking Boundaries
January – April 20
UNC Libraries – Skinner Music Library (display case)  Periodically, there are attempts to prevent certain ethnic or cultural groups from expressing themselves via music, art or literature. This display will feature different aspects of overcoming these boundaries via music expression.  Featured will be music of Black America (spirituals), Mexican Americans, Jews during The Holocaust (when Nazis tried to squelch Jewish creativity).
