Jason Byrnes is Assistant Professor of Tuba and Music Education at the University of Northern Colorado. In addition to teaching in the applied tuba and music education areas, he is director of the Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble, and performs on tuba with the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra, the Rough Riders Dixieland Band, and the 101st Army Band.

As a winner of numerous concerto competitions, Dr. Byrnes is in demand as a soloist and clinician. Recent performances include playing and conducting at the 2006 International Tuba-Euphonium Conference and solo appearances at the U.S. Army Band Tuba-Euphonium Conference, the 2007 SouthWest Regional Tuba-Euphonium Conference and universities across the U.S. He currently serves as an editorial consultant for the International Tuba-Euphonium Association Journal.

Before coming to UNC, Dr. Byrnes taught at the State University of New York-Potsdam, Murray State University, Indiana University, Pennsylvania State University, and in the public schools of Indianapolis. Dr. Byrnes earned Music Education and Performance degrees from Tennessee Technological University and Pennsylvania State University, and his doctorate from Indiana University. His teachers include R. Winston Morris, Daniel Perantoni, and Marty Erickson.
