Jonathan Leathwood joined the UNC faculty from his native England. A graduate of King’s College London, where he lectured in Techniques of Composition, Leathwood served most recently as the visiting head of the Guitar Department at Denver University. Hailed as an “immense talent” by Guitar International, recitals featuring Leathwood have included the three violin Partitas of Bach, traditional Spanish repertoire, large-scale cycles, and premières of works composed and dedicated to him. Classical Guitarist praised his “extraordinary musicianship”—calling his performances a “compelling and richly rewarding experience.” The first guitarist to perform in BBC Radio’s “Young Artists Forum,” Leathwood was also a winner in BBC Television’s “Young Musician of the Year” competition. He has studied guitar principally with Gordon Crosskey, Paul Galbraith, Richard Wright, and interpretation with George Hadjinikos.
