Article I - Purposes
The purpose of this organization shall be to advance music education, and in specific furtherance thereof:
1. to foster and promote the understanding and appreciation of jazz and its artistic performance.
2. to bring together the jazz community of UNC and the surrounding areas.
3. to provide teaching opportunities for music students who are to become music educators.
4. to promote jazz education within the UNC school of music and surrounding areas.
5. to provide UNC and Greeley with quality live jazz music.
Article II - Membership
Membership shall be open to anyone who is enrolled as a student at the University of Northern Colorado.
Article III - Dues
The annual dues of $25.00 shall be payable to the International Association for Jazz Education. Student Chapter membership year is September 1st -- August 31st.
Article IV - Officers
President:
The President shall be elected by a vote of the membership for a one-year term. The President shall be the principal officer of the association and shall be the focal point of action and activities.
Vice-President:
The Vice-President shall be elected by a vote of the membership for a one-year term. The Vice-President shall assume the duties of the President in the event of disability, absence, or resignation of the President. Such other duties shall be those of the Vice-President as assigned by the President.
Secretary:
The Secretary shall be elected by a vote of the membership for a one-year term. The Secretary shall keep the records of the association and shall be the custodian of all properties belonging to the association.
Treasurer:
The Treasurer shall be elected by a vote of the membership for a one-year term. The Treasurer shall handle the fiscal matters of the Association. The Treasurer shall collect dues, pay all bills, and keep accurate records of all monies taken in and expended.
Publicist:
The Publicist shall be elected by a vote of the membership for a one-year term. The Publicist shall handle the publicizing of all events sponsored by UNC IAJE.
Ombudsman:
The Ombudsman shall be elected by a vote of the membership for a one-year term. The Ombudsman shall manage all personnel-related duties such as taking role at meetings and registering suggestions and complaints from members. Such other duties shall be those of the Ombudsman as assigned by the President or Vice-President.
Article V - Selection and Removal of Officers
The officers for the ensuing academic year shall be elected during the last meeting of the previous year, by a majority vote of the members in attendance. The new slate of officer's addresses and phone numbers, are to be reported to the International Office upon completion of the Election.
Any officer may be removed at any time if it is agreed upon by a 75% vote of the current membership of the chapter.
Article VI - Meetings
Meetings will be held at least once each month.
Article VII - Activities
Activities will include (but are not limited to) the following: Sponsoring clinics, workshops, and jam sessions which will be offered to the UNC students at no charge, conducting fundraising, attending concerts, attendance at the IAJE National Convention.
Article VIII - Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Policy
UNC IAJE is an affirmative action/equal opportunity organization. UNC IAJE shall operate pursuant to the policies and regulations set forth by the University of Northern Colorado concerning affirmative action and equal opportunity.
Article XI - Advisor selection, duties and responsibilities
Advisor selection, when needed, will be voted on by the general membership. A 75% approval must be found in the general membership. A candidate for advisor will be chosen by the executive board of UNC IAJE.
The advisor will be available for consultation on club matters and for bureaucratic matters. The advisor will also be looked to for suggestions on club activities.
Article XII - Amendments
Amendments to this Constitution may be passed by a majority of the current UNC IAJE membership voting in a regular or special election.
