Dr. Harris is an Artist Faculty in Residence for Jazz Studies. He is an experienced director of both small and large instrumental jazz ensembles. He currently teaches Music Business and directs the UNC Jazz Lab Band III.
In addition to his teaching experience, Dr. Harris maintains an active performance schedule throughout Colorado's Front Range and beyond. While he specializes in jazz, Harris frequently performs other popular styles.
Harris conducted extensive research into the life of saxophonist Joe Henderson.
Harris is most interested in the music of the avant-garde in jazz, and is currently
researching the history of the blues genre.
Other interests include the historiographical legacy in jazz, as well as the impact
of scholastic institutions on the genre.
Dr. Harris authored a dissertation entitled, Joe Henderson: A Biographical Study of His Life and Career.
Harris also co-authored two entries with Professor Dana Landry for Teaching Music Through Performance in Jazz: Volume 2.
Harris recorded and co-produced a jazz album, entitled The Cairn Project.
Harris recently produced New Angle, the debut album from the group, All Angles.
