Professional/Academic Experience

Ashley received her Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration from Saint Mary’s College in South Bend, IN. She worked in the scene shop all 4 years of college, earning a spot as a Master Carpenter her junior and senior year. She received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Houston with an emphasis in Technical Direction. She spent two summers at the Des Moines Metro Opera as Master Carpenter and Head Welder and one summer at the Houston Shakespeare Festival as a carpenter and assisted on running crew. Before coming to UNC Ashley was the Technical Director at St. Pius X High School in Houston, Texas for 5 years. There she taught classes in stagecraft and theatre design. She designed and built the sets for the performances at SPX and managed the auditorium. Some of her past scenic designs and builds include Into the Woods, You Can’t take it With You, The Diary of Ann Frank and Noises Off.
