Congratulations to Mark Montemayor, Professor of Music, for being selected as the 2017-2018 Scholar of the Year for UNC’s College of Performing and Visual Arts. 

Dr. Montemayor is the head of the Music Education program at UNC. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in music education, and he also supervises student teachers and serves as a research consultant for the Center for Integrated Arts Education. His research and clinical interests include topics such as teacher effectiveness, mentoring student teachers, musical modeling and student self-evaluation, and adolescent experience in music pedagogy settings. He has presented his work at state, regional and national MENC conferences, the Cultural Diversity in Music Education conference, and at the Asia-Pacific Symposium on Music Education Research in Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Seattle. His work is published in the book series A Composer’s Insight: Thoughts, Analysis and Commentary on Contemporary Masterpieces for Wind Band, edited by Timothy Salzman, the Journal of Research in Music Education, and the International Journal of Music Education.
