Senior Showcases

The School of Theatre Arts and Dance produces two Industry Showcase presentations to assist our senior Musical Theatre and Acting students with their transitions into the professional world. The Showcase experience is designed to support the artist who is committed to living and working professionally in either New York City or Los Angeles.

New York City

The New York Musical Theatre Showcase is held during our March spring break each year. This showcase is geared toward senior Musical Theatre students and is a degree requirement for the Musical Theatre major. Senior Acting majors may audition for the New York Showcase if there are available slots in a given year. The New York Showcase is performed twice at an off-Broadway theatre near Times Square.

The New York Showcase is produced and directed by John Leonard and David Grapes.

UNC Los Angeles Showcase

Los Angeles

The LA Showcase is held the first Tuesday and Wednesday of May during finals week prior to graduation. This Showcase is geared toward senior Acting majors. Senior Musical Theatre majors may audition for the LA Showcase if there are available slots in a given year. Because this showcase is not part of any required curriculum for Musical Theatre or Acting majors, all slots are filled by audition. The LA Showcase is performed three times over two days at the Falcon Theatre located in Burbank, CA.

The Los Angeles Showcase is produced and directed by David Grapes and Ken Womble.

How are students selected to participate?

New York Showcase
Any graduating senior is eligible to audition for one or both showcases if there are slots available. Because Musical Theatre majors are required to participate in the New York Musical Theatre Showcase as a degree requirement, auditions for New York may or may not be required each year based on the size of the graduating class.

If there are slots available for Acting majors, an audition is held the first week of Fall classes. Participation in the New York Musical Theatre Showcase by Acting majors is not guaranteed.

Los Angeles Showcase
Any graduating senior is eligible to audition for one or both showcases if there are slots available. While the LA Showcase is geared toward senior Acting majors, senior Musical Theatre, Theatre Studies, and Theatre Education majors may audition for the LA Showcase if there are available slots that year.

Because this showcase is not part of any required curriculum for Musical Theatre or Acting majors, all slots are filled by open audition. The two Showcase directors and industry professionals conduct auditions for the LA Showcase during the month of October.

How much does it cost to participate in a Showcase?

New York Showcase
The cost of the New York City Musical Theatre Showcase is approximately $1,300 to $1,400 plus travel/housing/meals in New York City.

Los Angeles Showcase
The cost of the LA Showcase is approximately $1,000 to $1,100 plus travel/housing/meals in Los Angeles.

All Showcase participants are required to have approved headshots by a professional photographer, which may cost $400 to $600.
