Artist Talk: Thursday, Feb 21, 5-6pm

UNC Galleries is proud to welcome artist and UNC Alumna, Jessica Forrestal back to campus as the inaugural Artist-In-Reseidence at the new Campus Commons Gallery. Forrestal will occupy the newly constructed, state of the art gallery facilities located in Campus Commons from mid-December through early February. During her residency, guests are encouraged to stop by the gallery to directly engage with the artist and watch the work unfold, invade, and sprawl across our new gallery walls!

While in residence, Forrestal will complete a new series of site-specific, black and white drawings directly on the gallery's floor and walls. The artist's hand-drawn installations require intensive labor and crafting as she challenges concepts of quality, disposability and time. Much of Forrestal's work explores American consumer culture, mass production, consumption, and disposal of objects that are meant to promise functionality and life improvement. The artist riffs off of the authoritative style of a diagram and investigates the intersection of humans, objects, and environment.

Jessica Forrestal holds an MFA in Fine Art from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, a MA in Art and Design from University of Northern Colorado and a BA in Art from Colorado State University.  Jessica was recently an artist-in-residence at the Firehouse Art Center in Longmont, Colorado where she debuted a new collection of wall drawings. She was also awarded the opportunity to display her work publicly by a Brooklyn-based non-profit called SaveArtSpace. She has participated in group and solo shows in Brooklyn, New York, and in the Denver area.
