Exhibiting Artists: Annabel Attridge, Mattie Cox, Olivia Khaliqi, Melissa McDaniel, and Alexander Nunley
During the Fall 2020 semester, Mariani Gallery acted as a site for short-term (2 week),
intensive residencies for PVA students seeking space to conceptualize, research, and
make artwork in relationship to a theme of your choosing. The goal of this residency
was to serve as an opportunity for students to develop new and original artwork unrelated
to one's current coursework. Students were encouraged to experiment with their practice
during this time, and complete at least one new piece of work. Students were also
asked to leave behind “trace material,” showing a glimpse into their artistic process/sources
of inspiration (Examples: sketches, reading materials, thumbnails, etc.). The residency
also offered mentorship and critique opportunities to aid in professional development.
Each cohort had the option to participate in one group critique, led by SoAD faculty,
Visiting Artists, and/or the Gallery Director. Individual mentorship sessions were
also available and encouraged for each artist, mirroring many other residency experiences
in the field.
This group exhibition highlights the work of Mariani Gallery Residents: Annabel Attridge,
Mattie Cox, Olivia Khaliqi, Melissa McDaniel, and Alexander Nunley. Congratulations
to our featured artists for using the gallery as an outlet and source of inspiration
for new work during this unpreceded time.
