Three UNC Design & Technology Students, Naomi Gold, Tim Mack, and Patrick Hinchliffe,
recently entered a contest put on by the lighting company High End Systems. With
help from faculty member Ryan Andrus, they programmed a virtual design using the company’s
proprietary software and control systems and were judged on creativity and use of
the company’s equipment, all for a chance to win a trip to a lighting design trade
show in Las Vegas.
Although they did not win the trip to Vegas, High End rewarded the students’ work
by donating two state-of-the-art LED moving fixtures, complete with road cases, to
the School of Theatre Arts and Dance. This hefty donation was a surprising but well-deserved
recognition of the students’ usually behind-the-scenes efforts.
