The School of Theatre Arts and Dance (STAD) is pleased to announce new faculty and administrative appointments for the 2019-2020 academic year. In August 2019, STAD will welcome Ryan Driscoll as Associate Professor and Program Head of Musical Theatre. Professor Driscoll comes to UNC from the New York University Steinhart School where he served as the Assistant Director of Musical Theatre - Program in Vocal Performance. He is also a Guest Lecturer at the Iceland Academy of the Arts in Reykjavik, Iceland. In addition to his academic work, Driscoll is a member of Actors’ Equity Association (AEA) and has served as the Supervising Music Copyist on such Broadway productions as Come From Away, Bright Star, First Date, and others.

In addition to the transition in leadership in the Musical Theatre program, Shelly Gaza has been named Interim Director of the School, and Interim Producing Artistic Director of Little Theatre of the Rockies, effective in February 2019. Professor Gaza first came to UNC in 2011 to teach Stage Speech & Dialects and Shakespeare performance, and was appointed to the position of Assistant School Director in 2017. In addition to her work at UNC, Gaza is also a member of Actors’ Equity Association and is Co-founder of Statera Arts, an international non-profit organization working for gender parity and equity in the Arts.
