Alumni Feature: Yamuna Meleth

UNC Opera Theatre alum Yamuna Meleth stars as Annu, the sister of Mukhtar Mai, in Opera Ithaca’s new production Thumbprint – a contemporary opera inspired by the true story and heroic fight of Mukhtar Mai, the first female victim of gang rape to bring her male attackers to justice in Pakistan. In lieu of a financial settlement, Mai requested the construction of schools for girls, that through education they may be freed of the humiliation of signing their name only with their thumbprint.

Anna Ursyn’s Art Work Travels to the Moon!

Congratulations to Art & Design professor Anna Ursyn on having her art chosen for the MoonArk, part of the Moon Arts project set up by Carnegie Mellon University as the first collaborative mission of this kind involving several universities and organizations. Her piece, entitled “Swarm,” will literally travel to the Moon in a capsule aboard a NASA lunar lander!

Enlinked, Enlaced, Enamored: Ajean Ryan & Katie Caron

Lebenswelt is a German word for the phenomenological belief that the world is immediately or directly experienced in the subjectivity of everyday life. This “lifeworld” can be seen as a theater of objects situated within space and time. The exhibition will consist of multi-media works, sculptures, installation and wall pieces. The works will be woven together in the space and curated thoughtfully by both artists.
