The UNC School of Music is excited to announce that Drew Zaremba will be our new Assistant Professor of Jazz Composition in the fall. Drew is a Conn-Selmer Center Stage artist and has composed and arranged for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and an impressive list of jazz artists including Wycliffe Gordon, Stefan Karlsson, and Bobby Shew. The University of Northern Colorado Open Space Festival of New Music features guest artists in concerts with UNC faculty, students, and the UNC Symphony, lectures, and roundtable discussions. UNC Professor of Saxophone Andrew Dahlke is featured on a recording of a piece chosen as a finalist for the 2016 Pulitzer Prize in Music. The work is titled The Mechanics: Six From the Shop Floor, composed by CU-Boulder Professor Carter Pann. The Pulitzer Prize in Music is based off of the recording of the work rather than the written score. Pann’s piece was composed for the Capitol Quartet, a saxophone quartet in which Dahlke was a member through October 2014. [READ FULL POST]
