Dr. Sara (Schuhardt) Gisi is a communications professional, flutist and educator in northern Colorado, where she is Director of Audience Development and Communication in the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) College of Performing and Visual Arts and Instructor of Flute at Aims Community College.
With multiple years of experience in arts marketing and communications, Sara is excited that she gets to share about the arts at UNC with various communities and tell a variety of student, faculty, and alumni stories that show the impact of the arts on the world. She loves being able to use her creativity in diverse ways and constantly grow in areas like writing, project management, design, websites, social media, and marketing strategies.
Sara’s musical background includes performing around the world on flute and piccolo, teaching individual flute lessons and clinics at colleges and universities, and instructing courses in music theory, aural skills, and music appreciation. She has also served on the boards of regional music non-profits like the Colorado Flute Association.
Dr. Gisi earned her Doctor of Arts degree in Flute Performance at UNC, focusing her dissertation research on analyses of musical agency in the flute works of composer Erwin Schulhoff. She also holds degrees in Flute Performance and Music Education from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and Buena Vista University in northwest Iowa.
In her free time, Sara enjoys going on adventures with her husband Adam, doing something active and outdoorsy in Colorado’s beautiful spots, reading a mystery novel, and cooking good food.
