PVA’s annual StART Student Arts Salon is scheduled to place on Thursday, March 23, 2023, in downtown Greeley’s Moxi Theater again!  Now in its eighth year here in the College of Performing and Visual Arts, the StART Salon has grown into an exciting student-run showcase of visual and performing arts and a popular annual spring tradition. Each Salon featured dozens of student performances and visual arts pieces curated and created by students. StART Salon is a fun, pop-up event with a festival atmosphere! 

Following the model of these previous successful events, we are excited to announce that the Center for Arts Entrepreneurship are hiring six (6) student producer positions for StART Salon 8.0, for which we are now accepting applications. This team will be selected to conceive, plan, market, and execute the event under the supervision Drs. Rand Harmon and Sarah Off. Here are the benefits of these leadership positions: 

  • A $250 stipend paid to each producer
  • Professional experience in event planning, marketing, and performance and visual art curation
  • Direct mentorship (and potential letters of recommendation) from Dr. Rand Harmon, Associate Professor of Theatre Studies and Arts Entrepreneurship, or Dr. Sarah Off, Assistant Professor of Violin and Music Business.
  • A COOL resume credit!

The six positions we are hiring are: Event Manager, Event Stage Manager,  Music Performance Coordinator, Theatre & Dance Performance Coordinator, Exhibit Coordinator, and Marketing/PR Coordinator. Please see below for position descriptions!

Estimated time commitment for all positions:

  • In-person meetings biweekly starting mid-November, and electronic communication as needed.
  • Independent work, depending on your job duties and deadlines as the management team sets for itself.
  • Tech rehearsals and event prep and setup during the evenings, week of March 23, 2020.
  • StART Salon date: March 23, 2022.
  • A post-event wrap-up/analysis meeting on March 30, 2022.

Event Manager (student, $250 stipend)

  • Participate in the planning of the Salon event with the Executive Producers and other student coordinators.
  • Coordinate the design/decoration of the venue and tables for the Salon event.
  • Facilitate communication amongst planners and venues
  • Work as Venues Manager for the Salon event
  • Coordinate with venues any production details, scheduling, technical needs of acts or exhibit
  • Oversee coordination of performers and exhibit load-in, sound checks
  • Coordinate the set-up and catering for the hospitality/green room for the performers/exhibitors at the Salon event
  • Oversee the execution of final performance of the event per the agreed upon schedule
  • Coordinate strike of event, load-out of any materials, return of venues to original condition
  • Support event promotions efforts as needed.

Event Stage Manager (student, $250 stipend)

  • Participate in the planning of the Salon event with the Executive Producers and other student coordinators.
  • Work as Stage Manager for all stages and performances of the Salon event
  • Coordinate with Performance Coordinators and Event Manager any production details, scheduling, technical needs of acts
  • Coordinate with performers for load-in, sound checks
  • Conduct dress rehearsals
  • Stage Manage the final performance of the event, on all stages per the agreed upon schedule
  • Supervise any volunteer stage hands for the event
  • Coordinate change-overs/strike of each act of the event, and, if applicable load-out of any equipment
  • Oversee the return of venue’s stages, backstage areas, and dressing rooms to original condition

Music Performance Coordinator (student, $250 stipend)

  • Participate in the planning of the Salon event with the Executive Producer and other student coordinators.
  • Recruit, contract and coordinate music performers for Performance segment of Salon Event
  • Research, approach, confirm student performers and performance groups from the School of Music
  • Collaborate with Theatre & Dance Performance Coordinator to plan a cohesive lineup of diverse performances
  • Design, in coordination with Event Manager and Executive Producers the final-line-up of the Performance segment of the Salon event.
  • Facilitate communication between contracted student performers and Event Manager, including the formatting of the performer’s information for the event playbill/program
  • Assist Event Manager and Event Stage Manager in the smooth running of the Performance segment of the Salon event.
  • Support event promotions efforts as needed.

Theatre & Dance Performance Coordinator (student, $250 stipend)

  • Participate in the planning of the Salon event with the Executive Producers and other student coordinators.
  • Recruit, contract and coordinate theatre and dance performers (or film, poetry, etc.) for Performance segment of Salon Event
  • Research, approach, confirm student performers and performance groups from the School of Theatre Arts and Dance
  • Collaborate with Music Performance Coordinator to plan a cohesive lineup of diverse performances
  • Design, in coordination with Event Manager and Executive Producers the final-line-up of the Performance segment of the Salon event.
  • Facilitate communication between contracted student performers and Event Manager, including the formatting of the performer’s information for the event playbill/program
  • Assist Event Manager and Event Stage Manager in the smooth running of the Performance segments of the Salon event.
  • Support event promotions efforts as needed.

Exhibit Coordinator (student, $250 stipend)

  • Participate in the planning of the Salon event with the Executive Producers and other student coordinators.
  • Recruit, contract and coordinate visual art exhibitors for Exhibition segment of Salon Event
  • Research, approach, confirm student exhibitors from PVA.
  • Design, in coordination with Event Manager and Executive Producer, the final-layout of the exhibition segment of the Salon event.
  • Design, promote, and coordinate the juried selection process for the exhibition.
  • Facilitate the set-up and strike of the exhibit in coordination with the Event Manager, including the exhibitors’ delivery/pick-up of art selections, the formatting of the information cards for each exhibited piece, and the formatting of the exhibitor’s information for the event playbill/program.
  • Assist Event Manager in the smooth running of the Exhibition segment of the Salon event.
  • Support event promotions efforts as needed.

Marketing/PR Coordinator (student, $250 stipend)

  • Participate in the planning of the Salon event with the Executive Producers and other student coordinators.
  • Create a marketing strategy and timeline to publicize the Salon.
  • Directly design or supervise the design of all digital and print assets for the Salon.
  • Work with PVA Dean & PVA Marketing & Publicity Office to publicize the event on UNC Arts Websites, social media, and email campaigns.
  • Explore paid advertising opportunities, print, radio and digital.
  • Write and send press releasees to media contacts about the event.
  • Oversee student graphic design competition for the poster design
  • Print and hang posters at visible locations around campus and Greeley.
  • Work with Event Manager to create playbill/program for the Salon.
  • Assist Performance Coordinators and Exhibit Coordinator in gathering and formatting info on student artists and performers.
  • Support Event Manager with week-of event logistics as needed.
  • Some graphic design experience is preferred for this position, but not required.
