Admission to the School of Music
The School of Music offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees in instrumental performance, vocal performance, jazz studies, music composition, music education, music history and literature, music theory, and conducting. Admission requires a UNC application, supplementary music materials, for most programs, an audition, and an interview.
Audition and Interview Information
Applicants to the UNC School of Music will complete either an In-Person Audition & Interview, or a Video Audition and Virtual Interview.
In-Person Auditions & Interviews
Audition scheduling is completed as part of the College of Performing and Visual Arts
(PVA) Audition Form. You will be scheduled for one or more auditions/interviews depending on your primary
instrument and program of study.

Video Auditions and Virtual Interviews
Your video audition will be submitted to your Admission Portal after completing your application, but before your virtual interview. Virtual interview scheduling is completed as part of the College of Performing and Visual Arts (PVA) Audition Form. You will be scheduled for one or more auditions/interviews depending on your primary instrument and program of study.
Please note that all audition videos must be uploaded at the same time. Once you upload a video to the portal portfolio and click save, you will no longer have access. If you need to update your video at anytime, please email firstname.lastname@example.org

Current UNC Students
UNC students in their freshman year at UNC, who have not yet applied for, or been admitted to the School of Music may complete the Current Student Application and audition in the fall or spring semester. All students who are interested in majoring in music must apply and audition for the School Music. Music minors do not require an audition. Interested in meeting with a music advisor?
