Professional/Academic Experience

Brian Clay Luedloff serves as Director of Opera Theatre at University of Northern Colorado, directing 35operas since 2005, including the world premiere of his libretto for an adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. Fall 2024 will see the premiere of his original libretto for 221B: a Sherlock Holmes Opera.  Luedloff served as Artistic Director for Opera Fort Collins directing 20 productions including an American Prize award-winning production of Donizetti’s Daughter of the Regiment. He staged nearly 100 productions for opera companies and theatres, serving on the staging staff of Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Opera, Washington National Opera, the Dallas Opera and Houston Grand Opera. He holds an MFA from Boston University where he served as Directing Fellow and a BA in Music and Theatre from UMKC.
