Bassoonist Roger Soren is the newly appointed Acting Adjunct Professor of Bassoon
at the University of Northern Colorado. He also teaches at the Denver School of the
Arts as Bassoon Artist. Professor Soren has taught at many other institutions, including
the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, Bloomington, University of Denver,
Western Kentucky U., Bellarmine U., and Florida State College in Jacksonville. He
has also given recitals and master classes at over 30 other institutions, including
the Juilliard School, Vanderbilt University, and Boston Conservatory, as well as at
9 International Double-Reed Society Conferences.
Professor Soren joined the Colorado Symphony in 2011 as Utility Bassoonist and Contrabassoonist,
after holding positions with the Louisville Orchestra, Indianapolis and Jacksonville
Symphonies. He has also performed as a guest with many other orchestras including
the Chicago, Cincinnati, Montreal, Utah, Nashville, and Grant Park Symphonies.
As a soloist, Roger has performed with many orchestras, including the Colorado Symphony,
Louisville Orchestra, Symphony in C(NJ), and the International Double-Reed Society
Orchestra. In 2000, he was Contrabassoon Soloist in the North American Premier of
Michael Daugherty’s “Hells Angels”, with the Louisville Orchestra. In 1997, he gave
the World Premier of In A Deep Funk for Solo Contrabassoon at the International Double
Reed Society Conference at Northwestern University, in Evanston, IL.
Roger has recorded extensively with the Colorado, Nashville and Louisville Orchestras, and can be heard on the First Edition, Naxos, Geffen, CRI, D’Note, Koch, and Bis labels.
