Leo Welch is a Professor of Music in the School of Music at the University of Northern Colorado. Welch has also served as UNC’s Dean of the College of Performing and Visual Arts from 2013-2019 as well as Acting Provost during the 2017-18 academic year. His other administrative experience includes associate dean appointments at Florida State University’s College of Music and Marshall University’s College of Fine Arts.
As an arranger and composer, Dr. Welch has published over 60 compositions, and editions of classical guitar works with the FJH Music Company, Mel Bay Publications, Theodore Presser, and D’Oz Publications. His guitar ensemble clinical work includes guest conductor appearances at the inaugural Florida Music Education Association Guitar Ensemble All-State, Peabody Conservatory Fret Fest, as well as others across the country. As a performer, Welch has presented concerts throughout the United States and abroad. His Carnegie Hall debut concert featuring his own arrangements was presented in 2007 at Weill Recital Hall (Carnegie Hall). He has also written articles relating to guitar education and guitar pedagogy that have been featured in American String Teacher.
