Welcome to the UNC String Project! Have you ever thought about playing a string instrument? Do you like the sound of beautiful, smooth strings playing? Or maybe you like when strings are fast and crisp and exciting? If so, you’re in the right place! Please look through the information below to learn more about string instruments and how our program works. What We Do at the String Project
- Give students the opportunity to learn and perform string instruments! We teach the violin, viola, cello, and double bass. All of these instruments provide students opportunities to play music in ALL genres and styles!
- Provide a variety of learning experiences to students as young as 4th grade.
Students enrolled in the String Project will participate in two weekly rehearsals. As the student moves to more advanced levels, they will also receive private lessons.
- Make music with friends in string ensembles!
- Have a great time!
Why should I join the String Project?
- Learning a string instrument and playing in an educational orchestra teaches students responsibility and teamwork while developing positive relationships with their peers.
- Students develop both cognitive and physical abilities while learning instruments, not just musical abilities.
- Many studies show a link between instrumental music education and success in school subjects like language and mathematics.

Cost
- If you are a brand new beginner on this instrument, you will be in our Largo Ensemble. We charge a $100 participation fee each semester ($200 for the whole school year) to pay the teachers in your weekly ensemble rehearsals.
- If you already play a string instrument and are coming to us for an extra opportunity, please complete the registration form and Dr. Fulcher will be in touch with which ensemble is best for you, and what the participation fee is.

No student will be turned away because of financial need. Please contact Dr. Fulcher with concerns about fees and instruments.
