UNCommon Ensemble

UNCommon Ensemble, the Contemporary Music Ensemble at the University of Northern Colorado School of Music, performs the music of our time, focusing on late 20th- and 21st-century repertoire from composers who represent today’s diverse world. Through rehearsal and performance of contemporary works, students experience how to interpret contemporary notation from graphic scores and word events to standard notation of experimental and extended techniques. The ensemble frequently collaborates with composers and other artists within the university community and beyond, and expands the traditional boundaries of composer-performer-audience relationships through the exploration of improvisation, deep listening, interdisciplinary work, and community driven music-making. Students from all backgrounds and musical disciplines are welcome.
